Glorious Goodwood A Must For Flat Racing Fans

Horse racing fans are hoping for perfect summer weather as they prepare for the Qatar Goodwood Festival. Also known as Glorious Goodwood, the event will take place from Tuesday 26 July to Saturday 30 July 2022.

The five-day festival is a must for all flat racing fans with a major highlight taking place on each day. But you don’t have to wait until July to get involved in the Sport of Kings. Slingo Racing is available for fans of the sport on this bingo betting site.

Glorious Goodwood: The Qatar Goodwood Festival

All you have to do is select your horse and, if the racing colours on the Slingo board match your colours, your horse will move forward. If your horse reaches a multiplier, you will be awarded a cash prize and if you reach the finishing line, you will win the jackpot.

If you do decide to attend the festival, there are prices to suit every budget. From the Lennox Enclosure, where admission costs £20, to the Sussex Stand Box, which costs £849 per person based on 16 guests and includes a champagne reception with canapes, a three-course lunch and afternoon tea.

If you decide on the Lennox Enclosure, you can upgrade your experience with packages such as the Prosecco Celebration Package For Two.

You should be aware that, although the dress code is casual, racegoers are advised to dress smartly. It is always better to be overdressed than underdressed. The racecourse has provided a handy dress code guide for anyone who is still unsure.

Let’s look at the highlights of each day, so you know what to expect when you attend Glorious Goodwood 2022.

Goodwood Cup Day 26 July

One of the highlights of the festival will be the appearance of the stayer Stradivarius as he attempts to win the Goodwood Cup for a fifth time. The eight-year-old missed out last year due to unsuitable ground, and Hollie Doyle took full advantage of his absence to win on Trueshan.

Qatar Sussex Stakes 27 July

Previous winners of the Sussex Stakes include some of the greatest one-milers in the history of racing, such as Frankel. Last year, the race was won by Oisin Murphy on the filly Alcohol Free. The race offers prize money of over £1 million and has been dubbed the Duel On The Downs as horses of three years and upwards battle for the crown.

Ladies’ Day 28 July

Ladies’ Day sees horse racing meet high fashion and features the Magnolia Cup, a charity race for female amateur jockeys. The Group 1 Qatar Nassau Stakes, worth £600,000 to the winner, sees the best fillies and mares compete.

L’Ormarins Best Dressed 2022 29 July

The Group 2 King George Qatar Stakes will feature some of the best sprinters in horse racing, but another highlight is the L’Ormarins best dressed competition. The prize on offer to the winner is a trip to South Africa.

The only stipulation is that entrants are asked to dress in the blue and white colours of L’Ormarins. Last year, the latest horse racing talent Baaeed won the Bonhams Thoroughbred Stakes, perhaps we will see another star in the making this year!

Stewards’ Cup Day 30 July

The final day of the festival features the Stewards’ Cup. This race is known as the cavalry charge due to the highly competitive field of up to 28 runners and the unpredictable nature of the six-furlong sprint, which often results in surprise winners.

There really is something for everyone at the Qatar Goodwood Festival, with a highlight every day. So, whether you attend all five days or just take in one day of racing, you will not be disappointed. All we need is five days of sunshine to make Glorious Goodwood the perfect racing festival.
