Even if you are looking at excel files, it is possible to embed them to a QR code. The applications are numerous.

However, before you could jump into knowing what great things there are in store for you, the first thing you should do is learn how to create one.

Creating an Excel QR Code

There are two ways to create an excel QR code online. The first makes use of an excel file.

Here are the steps to making one.

  1. Select and open a QR code generator.
  2. Choose the “file” tab.
  3. You will then be able to upload your excel file.
  4. Generate your dynamic QR code.
  5. Personalize your QR code as you see fit.
  6. Download the image. Choose between SVG or PNG file format, depending on your needs.

The only thing left for you to do is share your QR code. Let people see and access your excel sheet conveniently and on-the-go.

However, if you are going to have a much bigger excel file. Chances are, the file option may not be available. Instead, you can create an excel file in Google Docs. Once you are finished, it is time to create your QR code. Here are the steps in making one.

  1. Copy the shareable link to your Google Doc.
  2. Open a QR code generator online.
  3. Choose the URL tab and paste the URL in the provided box.
  4. Choose between static or dynamic QR codes.
  5. Generate your QR code.
  6. Apply the necessary personalization choices you see fit.
  7. Download the image. Choose between SVG or PNG file format, depending on your needs.

With this option, your scanners can have the choice to edit your spreadsheet as they see fit. You can provide that convenience or leave it on read-only.

Choosing Between Dynamic and Static QR Codes

When presented between static or dynamic QR codes in your QR code generator online it all boils down to what your needs are. While dynamic can be the most versatile, static can be the cheaper option if you don’t need anything fancy.

Choose dynamic when you need some added functionality since it allows you to update the content linked to your QR code. You are also able to track the performance of your code, from when, where, and how many times it has been scanned.

With an excel file, all of these features can come in handy. Either it is time to start using a new file or you need to know who has access to it.

On the other hand, static QR codes don’t have any of the mentioned features. It is as simple as it can get. No updatable content feature or the ability to track and monitor the activity of your QR code. However, it is free most of the time. So, if you don’t need anything fancy, opt for the static option.

What’s Better? PNG or SVG?

Another thing that you have to choose between are PNG and SVG. For the beginner, it might not make any sense. But the one you pick should be based on your needs.

You should only choose SVG if you have a different purpose for your QR code. If you intend to include it in large prints or add into certain graphics, SVG should be the one to go with. It allows for better editing flexibility, opening a lot of options without compromising image quality.

If you are going to print your QR code as it is, going with PNG would be the much better choice. It is lighter, making it easier to copy and work with. There is also wider compatibility, so you don’t have to worry about anything.

Why Choose QR Code?

People always ask, why consider using QR codes? Why not use the link or just send the file itself? What is the benefit of using a QR code?

Access Anywhere

You can’t always make your excel file readily available anywhere and all the time. But with the help of QR codes, you can. The only thing you need is the code and you can put it anywhere for anybody to access.

Low Maintenance

When posting your spreadsheets everywhere, you will be constantly left asking, who has access to it? You never know who has a copy and that can be problematic when you need to limit who can get access to it. With QR codes, you can easily unlink a spreadsheet from a QR code.

Conclusion

With all that has been said, it is without a doubt that QR codes bring a lot to the table when talking about spreadsheets. It makes everything more convenient and easier, opening various options and possibilities.

So, it is not a question of whether or not you need QR codes in your life, but how can you make them worth your time. And with how easy and flexible they are, it doesn’t need much thinking to come up with answers to that question.
