This proverb is quite common, and you must have heard of this since your childhood. Our nannies, grannies, mommies, and even our teachers instill this saying in our heads. Usually, this is repeated while you plan on staying up late with popcorn and a good movie.

There are so many examples around you of accomplished people who wake up early, sleep early, and their lives are a complete success. You must have heard of Michelle Obama, the former First lady of the United States. What about Tim Cook, the CEO of the worldwide famous Apple company.

Early To Bed Early To Rise

Or perhaps everyone’s favorite,  the CEO of Disney, Mr. Bob Iger. There are so many other renowned CEOs like Ursula Burns and Indra Nooyi. All of these and many others are early birds. They wake up early in the morning, do an excessive workout and go to work. They even wind things up early at night and try to go to bed earlier.

Regardless of the countless benefits becoming an early riser brings to our productivity and overall health, there are many of us who enjoy the soothing silent hours of night and avoid turning in bed early.

However, drinking a cup of Yogi bedtime lavender tea, having a relaxing shower or trying out delicious melatonin gummies can definitely help you to condition your mind to become an early sleeper.

If you also follow this beautiful schedule, then your life would turn over a new leaf. You would be greatly successful in your business because early morning is the time for great ideas. It is when your mind is extremely fresh. Even exercising first thing in the morning freshens you up.

A good sleep results in good mental health

Astonishingly, a good night’s sleep equals good mental health. Psychologists suggest that if you manage your time expertly and have a good night’s rest, then your mind would be healthier. However, oversleeping along with less sleep is the root cause of depression and other psychological issues.

Strengthening immune system through good sleeping habits

What’s more, good sleeping habits can also boost your immune system, making you more energetic and active throughout the day. Sleeping less can make your immune cells work slowly, and as a result, they may not respond as quickly to an attack, and you might get ill more often.

Good sleep equals a healthier heart.

It is a fact that the longer you sleep, the safer you are from any heart diseases as sleeping lowers your blood pressure. Moreover, while sleeping, your heart muscles are at rest and thus promote your physical and mental health and wellbeing.

Poor sleep is connected with an increase in weight.

Believe it or not, weight gain is linked strongly to poor sleeping habits. It is true that when you are well-rested, you are less likely to feel hungry. On the other hand, if you do not get enough sleep, your appetite-controlling hormones are out of control, and as a result, you feel more hungry, and your temptation for unhealthy foods rises.

Also, when you do not get enough sleep, you feel tired and lazy, and your physical activity compromises. Therefore, you easily gain weight when you do not get a good night’s sleep.

Good sleep means a better concentration level and more productivity

We all know that when we are sleepy, we are less likely to focus and concentrate. In contrast, when we get a good night’s rest, our brain functions more efficiently, and we feel greatly energized.

Furthermore, a study showed that better sleep could result in enhanced memory, better problem-solving skills, and increased brain function as well.

How much sleep do you need in accordance with your age?

Sleep requirements vary with age. A baby sleeps longer hours than an adult. Here are the recommended sleeping hours according to your age.

  • Adults aged 16-64 usually require about seven to eight hours of sleep.
  • Teenagers between the ages of 14-17 need eight to ten hours of sleep.
  • Children between the ages of 6-13 require about nine to eleven hours of sleep.
  • Children of ages 3-5 need a maximum of ten to thirteen hours of sleep.
  • Similarly, toddlers at the age of 1-2 years sleep about eleven to fourteen hours a day.
  • Babies of 0-3 months require at least fourteen to seventeen hours of sleep.

Disadvantages of oversleeping

As much as sleep deprivation is dangerous, so is oversleeping. You should not sleep early and wake up late. If you sleep more than your age requirements, you are putting your health at great risk.

Not only that, but you are more prone to a wide number of medical conditions, along with a greater risk of depression.

Also, inflammation in the body can also be caused because of excessive sleep. In addition to that, your weight is more likely to increase if you sleep more than your body’s requirement.
