Early Life and Background
How a Puerto Rican Boy With a Dream Became a Global Music Icon!
Daddy Yankee was born on February 3, 1976, in San Juan, Puerto Rico. He grew up in the Villa Kennedy housing project, a rough area where music became his escape. His family had musical roots-his father was a salsa percussionist-and from a young age, Daddy Yankee was drawn to rhythmic beats.
Interestingly, he didn’t always dream of music. As a teenager, he wanted to become a professional baseball player and was close to signing with the Seattle Mariners. However, a stray bullet during a street shooting left him injured and ended his sports dreams. This moment shifted his focus entirely toward music.
That twist of fate was the beginning of an extraordinary journey.

Following that, he released multiple albums, including El Cartel: The Big Boss, Prestige, and King Daddy. His collaborations with global artists like Snoop Dogg, Pitbull, Bad Bunny, and Luis Fonsi helped cement his place as a versatile and respected performer.
