How Are Cosmetics Made?

Makeups have largely been a part of our daily lives – especially a woman’s. Today, you rarely see someone who does not apply face powder or put lipstick on (lip tints are famous in this generation).

Now that the online world has been blabbering about everybody’s own skincare routine, and that product reviews are sprawled all throughout the web, it is truly hard not to be a cosmetic convert.

For sure, if not conscious, everyone is concerned about how they dress or look. This seems like a fair enough reason why a lot of people plot their own way of hunting the best and probably the cheapest cosmetics available in stores.

What are cosmetics?

Cosmetics are products applied to human skin for beautifying, cleansing, altering and improving the appearance. These are good-quality items that enhance the looks and skin condition. Grooming items or beauty preparations lead to attractive demeanor.

For example, a pinkish color added to the lips will cover one’s paleness. Perfumes, colognes and other types of fragrance are also considered cosmetics.

So, when you spray them onto your body, you are technically using a cosmetic product that makes you smell good – increasing your charm. Using contour sticks defines the edges of your face, and when you use it, you start to look better.

Most of the components present in cosmetics include water, fragrances, colors, preservatives, thickeners, emulsifiers, moisturizers, etc. Both artificial and natural ingredients are being used but the greatest factor considered is their effect on the skin.

The objective of these beauty products is to promote good physical appearance so the chemicals and elements used in processing them should not in any way harm the skin and ruin the looks.

So, be extra careful in buying those makeups, especially the cheap ones – so cheap that its cheapness is unbelievable – double check the contents of the products and do your research about the manufacturer. An ordinary makeup comprises a mixture of 15 to 50 ingredients, each containing a number of chemicals.

How Are Cosmetics Made?

Cosmetics contain a vast array of ingredients that are basically blended finely to distribute throughout the main suspension in an even manner. Afterward, they are formed on their appropriate shape and structure. How are they made?

1] Lipstick

The main ingredients of lipstick are oil, wax, alcohol, and pigment. First, wax and oil are melted and mixed together. The oil keeps it from drying. Then, color and fragrance are put together.

Pigmentation gets selected by the manufacturer whether they want a glossy or matte texture. Lastly, the mixture is poured into a stainless steel tank where it gets cooled.

2] Mascara

Castor, linseed, and lanolin oils are the commonly used components of mascara today. Factories utilize powder carbon for the base pigment. Beeswax and carnauba increase the volume of lashes and plaster it. To make it waterproof, dodecane is deposited to the mix.

The process involved is called emulsification. Equipment like Ginhong mixers allows immiscible liquids like the oil and pigments into the main solution. If not for this procedure, the components will not get blended and become one substance.

On the other hand, homogenization can be used when dissolving into a cream base mixed with water and other thickeners. The finished product is then packaged and distributed to beauty lines.

3] Eye shadow

Then there’s the eye shadow. Not all girls apply this on a regular basis but the demand gets undeniably high when going for a night out or party. Synthetic iron oxides are ground and pulverized into colorful pigments. Oil and zinc are then added to produce a somewhat pressed powder. From the primary hues, other colors are born.

Pearl pigments can be joined to the mix for a shimmering coat. This puts sparkles on the product, making the eyelids glow or shine bright. The final mix is set into trays and cooled.

4] Nail polish

Nail polish

Nail polish contains four primary ingredients. These are solvent, resins, color, and film forming agents. Nitrocellulose is an example of a film-forming agent. It is dispersed into synthetic resins and plasticizers. The plasticizers include butyl stearate, amyl, and castor oil. Additives make the product soap and water resistant.

After that, the coloring agent is added through the use of machinery for mixing and grinding. The viscous mixture is repeatedly crushed and blended so that colors would be properly diffused.

5] Powder, Foundations, and Blush

Organic products, oils, minerals, perfume fragrances, and pigments compose items like powder, foundations as well as blush. As they are spread on the face and neck, manufacturers are all the more particular with the chemicals that they use for them. Many people have sensitive skin and might get rashes if the wrong ingredients are mixed to the content.

Like the other makeups, the ingredients of powder, foundation, and blush are emulsified, milled and set to cool before the packaging and shipping.

Conclusion

Makeups do people a big favor in terms of beautification. While it is not bad to apply these products on your skin, in fact, they help the tissues heal and regenerate, you should always be mindful of what you apply to your face and body.

Check the ingredients and watch or read reviews online. Too much use of cosmetics is also not good for you. Everything must be consumed in moderation.
