The Camp Lejeune water contamination incident stands as a stark reminder of the enduring consequences of environmental negligence on a massive scale. This tragedy unfolded over several decades, affecting as many as 1 million people who lived and worked at the base from 1953 to 1987.
In response to the widespread suffering, a legal battle has ensued, seeking justice and compensation for the victims. The introduction of the Elective Option framework by the U.S. Navy offers potential settlement amounts to eligible claimants based on their specific illnesses. When this article was written in 2023, Bloomberg Law reported that claims not resolved under the Elective Option would go to trial the following year.
In this article, we will discuss the intricacies of the Camp Lejeune lawsuit and provide guidance to claimants on how to maximize their compensation.
Proving Qualifying Injuries

According to About Lawsuits, tier 1 diseases include bladder cancer, liver cancer, kidney cancer, non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, and leukemia. Tier 2 diseases include Parkinson’s disease, multiple myeloma, kidney diseases, and systemic sclerosis.
