There’s a good reason why so many homeowners today are installing ceiling fans. There’s just no substitute for having a ceiling fan in your home. No other fixture can do as much to keep you comfortable for as cheaply as a ceiling fan.

Ceiling fans have so many benefits. They can keep your home cool and breezy or redistribute warm air to help you feel more cozy. They can help you keep your heating and cooling bills low while adding a splash of pizzazz to your home decor. Ceiling fans can even be used outdoors to enhance comfort and keep bugs away. And if you’re looking to lower your impact on the environment, ceiling fans could be part of the answer.

Ceiling Fans Are Great for Climate Control

Climate control is probably the number one reason why most people install ceiling fans. When spinning counterclockwise, a ceiling fan’s blades push air downwards, creating airflow that makes your house feel breezy and cool. That breeze takes advantage of your body’s natural cooling system to control how you perceive the temperature inside your house. That’s an important point – ceiling fans don’t actually make the temperature in the room drop, but can make you feel cooler anyway. Ceiling fans can make most people feel 4℉ or 3-4℃ cooler in the summer even without turning the air conditioner up.

You don’t just get summer climate control from your ceiling fans. Most ceiling fans have a feature that allows you to reverse the direction of the fan blades so that they spin clockwise. This feature pulls air up instead of pushing it down. In the winter, you can reverse the direction of your fan blades and they will pull cold air up from the floor and push warm air back down, so you’ll be able to feel more of the heat you pay for.

You’ll Save a Ton of Money Running Ceiling Fans

Using ceiling fans year-round can save you a ton of money. One study by researchers at the University of Sydney in Australia found that study participants used 76 percent less energy when they relied on ceiling fans to help them maintain a comfortable thermal temperature in the summer. A ceiling fan costs just one penny for each three hours of use, while a whole-house central air conditioner costs about 36 cents an hour and a window A/C unit costs 14 cents an hour. You can use your ceiling fans during the run-up to hot weather so you don’t have to turn on your A/C too early in the season. If you reverse your fan blades in the winter, you can save up to 15 percent on your heating bills, too.

Today’s Ceiling Fans Are So Stylish

You’re not limited to a traditional ceiling fan design, not these days. No matter what design aesthetic you’re looking for, there’s a stylish and functional ceiling fan out there for you. Sleek, contemporary designs with clean, curved lines are popular right now, but so are big, steampunk-esque windmill fans with eight or nine blades, industrial cage fans, and vertical ceiling fans. You’ll have no problem finding a fan that fits in with your decor, and has all the features you want, too – dimmable light fixtures, smart connectivity, remote controls or wireless wall controls, and more.

Ceiling Fans Cut Carbon Emissions

Who doesn’t feel like they need to do more personally to mitigate the effects of climate change? We all have to do our part. Ceiling fan use can reduce a household’s greenhouse gas emissions substantially, from an average of 5,091 kilotons to 1,208 kilotons. That’s a huge difference. Experts believe that using ceiling fans is one of the most effective things you can do to reduce your carbon footprint at home without sacrificing comfort.

You Can Even Install a Ceiling Fan Outdoors

Yes, ceiling fans can be useful outdoors, too! A ceiling fan on a covered porch or patio can have all the same climate-control benefits that it has inside. Having a fan in your outdoor space is just about the only way that you can control the temperature on your porch or patio. The fan will help you feel cooler, and the breeze it creates will help keep flying insects at bay, too.

If you’re looking for a way to stay more comfortable in your home while slashing your carbon emissions and your heating and cooling costs, you need some ceiling fans in your life. Ceiling fans have always been great for climate control, and one of today’s stylish fan models will keep you and your family comfortable in any season.
