The CR1632 is a 3-volt lithium coin battery, about 16 mm wide and 3.2 mm thick. The best equivalent is simply another CR1632. Any brand works as long as the code matches. Cells that look close, like the CR1620 or CR2032, are a different size, so they are not true equivalents.
This guide uses Energizer’s data sheets to explain the size, voltage and capacity of the CR1632, what the code means and how it compares with the CR1616, CR1620 and CR2032.

| CR1632 | |
|---|---|
| Chemistry | Lithium manganese dioxide (Li/MnO2) |
| Voltage | 3.0 V |
| Diameter | 15.75-16.00 mm (0.620-0.630 in) |
| Thickness | 3.00-3.20 mm (0.118-0.126 in) |
| Typical capacity | 130 mAh (to 2.0 V) |
| Weight | 1.8 g (0.06 oz) |
| Operating temperature | -30 to 60°C (-22 to 140°F) |
| Self-discharge | About 1% a year |
What is the equivalent of a CR1632 battery?
Another CR1632. Every maker uses the same code for this size, so a CR1632 from any good brand will fit and work. Energizer’s battery cross-reference guide lists its own versions as CR1632 and KECR1632.
There is no common replacement with a different number. The cells most people try instead, the CR1620 and CR2032, are a different thickness or width.

What does CR1632 mean?
- C: lithium manganese dioxide chemistry
- R: round
- 16: about 16 mm wide
- 32: about 3.2 mm thick
Once you know this pattern, you can read most coin cell codes. A CR1620 is also 16 mm wide but only 2.0 mm thick. A CR2032 is 20 mm wide and 3.2 mm thick.
Can I use a CR1620 instead of a CR1632?
It is not a good idea. A CR1620 is the same width, but it is about 1.2 mm thinner, so it can sit loose and lose contact. It also holds less energy: Energizer rates the CR1620 at 81 mAh against 130 mAh for the CR1632. The CR1616 is thinner again, at about 1.6 mm. Use a CR1632 if the device asks for one.

Can I use a CR2032 instead of a CR1632?
No. Both are 3 volts and 3.2 mm thick, but a CR2032 is about 20 mm wide, 4 mm wider than a CR1632. It will not fit a CR1632 holder. Our CR2032 vs CR2025 vs CR2016 guide covers the 20 mm family.

How long does a CR1632 battery last?
In Energizer’s continuous test on a 15,000-ohm load (about 0.19 mA), a CR1632 ran about 684 hours before falling to 2.0 V. Most devices draw far less power most of the time, so real life depends on the device. Energizer lists a shelf loss of only about 1% a year, so a spare cell keeps well in a drawer.
Where CR1632 batteries are used
Energizer’s cross-reference guide lists watches, medical devices, calculators and games as typical uses. Always check the code printed on your old battery or in the device’s manual before you buy.
Coin battery safety
Energizer warns that swallowing a lithium coin cell can cause serious injury or death in as little as 2 hours. Keep new and used cells away from children and pets, and get emergency medical help straight away if you think a child has swallowed one.

Frequently asked questions
What is the same as a CR1632 battery?
Any battery marked CR1632. The code is the same across brands.
What size is a CR1632 battery?
About 16 mm (0.63 in) across and 3.2 mm (0.13 in) thick.
What voltage is a CR1632?
3 volts. It is a lithium coin cell.
Is CR1632 the same as CR1620?
No. They are the same width, but the CR1620 is about 1.2 mm thinner and holds less energy.
Can a CR2032 replace a CR1632?
No. A CR2032 is about 4 mm wider and will not fit.
How many mAh is a CR1632?
Energizer rates its CR1632 at 130 mAh to 2.0 volts.
