The CR2430 is a 3-volt lithium coin battery, about 24.5 mm wide and 3.0 mm thick. The right equivalent is another CR2430. Brand names for the same size include DL2430 (Duracell) and ECR2430, which Energizer lists as cells its CR2430 replaces. A CR2032 or CR2450 is a different size, so it is not a true equivalent.
This guide uses the Energizer and Duracell data sheets to show the size, voltage and capacity of the CR2430, what the code means, and how it compares with the CR2450 and CR2032.

What is the equivalent of a CR2430 battery?
Any battery marked CR2430, or a brand name for the same cell. Energizer’s product page says its CR2430 is a replacement for DL2430 and ECR2430. Duracell sells the same size as the DL2430, and its data sheet gives the international code as CR2430. Both data sheets also carry the same ANSI code, 5011LC.
There is no common cell with a different size that is a safe swap. Energizer puts it plainly on its product page: coin lithium batteries are not interchangeable, and you should use the cell your device maker specifies.

What does CR2430 mean?
- C: lithium manganese dioxide chemistry
- R: round
- 24: about 24 mm wide (24.5 mm at most)
- 30: about 3.0 mm thick
The same pattern works for most coin cells. A CR2450 is also about 24.5 mm wide but about 5.0 mm thick. A CR2032 is 20 mm wide and 3.2 mm thick.
Can I use a CR2450 instead of a CR2430?
Usually not. Both are 3 volts and the same width, but a CR2450 is up to 5.0 mm thick against 3.0 mm for a CR2430. That extra 2 mm (about 0.08 in) means it will not fit most CR2430 holders. Do not force it in.
The other way round is not a good fix either. A CR2430 in a CR2450 holder can sit loose and lose contact, and it has about half the capacity (Energizer lists 620 mAh for its CR2450, measured on a different test load). Our CR2450 vs CR2477 guide covers the thicker 24 mm cells.

Can I use a CR2032 instead of a CR2430?
No. A CR2032 is also 3 volts, but it is only 20 mm wide, about 4.5 mm (0.18 in) narrower than a CR2430. It will slide around in a CR2430 holder and may not touch both contacts. It also holds less: Energizer lists a typical 235 mAh for the CR2032 against 320 mAh for its CR2430 on the same test. The reverse does not work either: a CR2430 is too wide for a CR2032 holder. See our CR2032 vs CR2025 vs CR2016 guide for the 20 mm family.

Why do brands list different mAh for the CR2430?
Each maker tests its own cell and words the figure its own way. On the same 15,000-ohm load down to 2.0 V, Energizer gives a typical capacity of 320 mAh for its CR2430, and Duracell gives a rated capacity of 270 mAh for its DL2430. A typical figure and a rated figure are not exactly the same kind of number, so do not read the gap as a strict head-to-head. Both fit the same holder and give the same 3 volts. The number tells you roughly how long a cell may last, not whether it fits.

How long does a CR2430 battery last?
It depends on the device. In Energizer’s continuous test on a 15,000-ohm load (about 0.19 mA), its CR2430 ran about 1,690 hours, roughly 70 days, before falling to 2.0 V. Most devices sleep most of the time and draw much less, so real life is often far longer. On the shelf, Energizer lists a loss of about 1% a year, and its product page says the cell holds power for 8 years in storage.
What uses a CR2430 battery?
Energizer’s product page lists heart-rate monitors, keyless entry fobs, glucose monitors, toys and games. Always check the code printed on your old battery, or the device manual, before you buy.
How to replace a CR2430 battery
- Read the code on the old cell. It is printed on the flat side.
- Note which side faces up. On Duracell’s data sheet drawing, the wide flat side is marked +.
- Fit the new CR2430 the same way round and close the cover fully.
- Test the device. If it does not work, check the cell sits flat and touches both contacts.
- Tape over the old cell and take it to a battery recycling point. Keep it away from children.
Coin battery safety
Energizer warns that swallowing a lithium coin cell can cause serious injury or death in as little as 2 hours. Keep new and used cells away from children and pets. Get emergency medical help straight away if you think a child has swallowed one.
A CR2430 is not rechargeable. Energizer’s product page warns never to charge, crush, take apart or heat these cells. If you see a rechargeable coin cell sold as a CR2430 “replacement”, use it only if your device maker says it is suitable.

Frequently asked questions
Is DL2430 the same as CR2430?
Yes. DL2430 is Duracell’s name for a CR2430. Duracell’s data sheet gives its international code as CR2430.
What size is a CR2430 battery?
About 24.5 mm (0.96 in) across and 3.0 mm (0.12 in) thick.
What voltage is a CR2430?
3 volts. It is a lithium manganese dioxide coin cell.
Can a CR2032 replace a CR2430?
No. A CR2032 is about 4.5 mm narrower, so it may not touch the contacts, and it has less capacity.
Is CR2430 the same as CR2450?
No. They are the same width, but a CR2450 is about 2 mm thicker and will not fit most CR2430 holders.
How many mAh is a CR2430?
It varies by brand. Energizer lists a typical 320 mAh for its CR2430 and Duracell a rated 270 mAh for its DL2430, both to 2.0 V on the same load.
