The LR41 is a small 1.5-volt alkaline button battery, about 7.9 mm wide and 3.6 mm thick. Its most common equivalent is the 192: Energizer’s 192 battery is listed as an IEC LR41 cell. It is also widely sold as AG3. The silver oxide version of the same size is the SR41, sold as 392 or 384, which is 1.55 volts.
This guide uses Energizer’s data sheets to compare the alkaline LR41 with its silver oxide twins, explains what the names mean, and shows which one to pick for thermometers, toys, watches and other small devices.

| LR41 / 192 (alkaline) | SR41 / 392 / 384 (silver oxide) | |
|---|---|---|
| Size | 7.55-7.90 mm wide, 3.30-3.60 mm tall | Same size code (41) |
| Nominal voltage | 1.5 V | 1.55 V |
| Typical capacity | 45 mAh (to 0.9 V) | 41 mAh (to 1.3 V) |
| Weight | 0.5 g | 0.57 g |
| IEC code | LR41 | SR41 |
| US (ANSI/NEDA) code | – | 1135SO (392), 1134SO (384) |
What is the equivalent of an LR41 battery?
- Exact alkaline equivalent: 192 (Energizer’s name for its LR41 cell). It is also commonly sold as AG3; check the pack says alkaline.
- Silver oxide versions of the same size: SR41, sold as 392 or 384. Energizer’s cross-reference guide also lists names like SR41SW, SR41W, SG3 and V392/V384 for this cell.
Because LR41 and SR41 share the same IEC size code (41), they are the same size and fit the same devices. The difference is the chemistry inside.

Can I use 392 instead of LR41?
Yes. A 392 (SR41) is the same size as an LR41 and gives a very similar voltage (1.55 V against 1.5 V). Energizer’s silver oxide manual says silver oxide cells have a flatter discharge curve than alkaline ones, so a 392 holds its voltage more steadily as it runs down. That makes it a good, often better, replacement in watches and measuring devices. The alkaline LR41 is usually cheaper and fine for simple gadgets.
LR41 voltage as it drains
Energizer’s 192 data sheet shows how an alkaline LR41’s voltage falls as it is used: about 1.43 V when new, about 1.10 V at 40% used and about 0.98 V at 80% used (on its test load). Devices that need a steady voltage may stop working before an alkaline cell is fully used.

What does LR41 mean?
- L: alkaline chemistry (as in LR44 and LR6)
- R: round
- 41: the IEC size code, which the silver oxide SR41 shares
The silver oxide version uses “S” instead of “L”: SR41. Other names, like 192, 392, 384 and AG3, are maker and retail codes for the same size.

Where LR41 batteries are used
Energizer’s cross-reference guide lists its 392/384 silver oxide cell of this size for watches, medical devices and laser pointers. Small digital thermometers, toys and other little gadgets also often use LR41-size cells. Always check the code on the old battery or in the manual before you buy, because many button cells look alike.
Button battery safety
Small button batteries are dangerous if swallowed. Keep new and used cells away from children, and get emergency medical help straight away if you think a child has swallowed one.

Frequently asked questions
Is LR41 the same as 192?
Yes. Energizer’s 192 battery is an IEC LR41 alkaline cell, so the two names mean the same battery.
Is LR41 the same as 392?
Same size, different chemistry. The 392 is the silver oxide SR41 (1.55 V); the LR41 is alkaline (1.5 V). A 392 works in place of an LR41.
Is AG3 the same as LR41?
AG3 is a name commonly used for the alkaline LR41 size. Check the pack says alkaline; silver oxide cells of this size use names like SR41, 392 and SG3.
What size is an LR41 battery?
About 7.9 mm in diameter and 3.6 mm tall (7.55-7.90 mm by 3.30-3.60 mm in Energizer’s data sheet).
What is the difference between 392 and 384?
Both are 1.55 V silver oxide SR41 cells of the same size and capacity. Energizer gives them different ANSI codes (1135SO and 1134SO) and sells them as one 392/384 cell.
What voltage is an LR41?
1.5 volts nominal. Silver oxide SR41 (392/384) cells are 1.55 volts.
