One of those unusual dishes whose name doesn’t truly describe what it is, Jerusalem artichokes! They are not an artichoke variety, but rather a kind of sunflower! They originated in North America, and the root is palatable.

The name “Jerusalem” is a distortion of the Italian word for sunflower, “girassole,” and has nothing to do with the city.

They are a good source of potassium, vitamin B, and iron. Your energy levels and immune system benefit from iron. Your metabolism will benefit from vitamin B, and potassium helps to decrease blood pressure.

Although they have a lower glycemic index than potatoes, they can be used in dishes that call for potatoes.

Jerusalem artichokes are delicious in soup or roasted with garlic.

Jackfruit

Fruits. Young jackfruit is cooked like a vegetable even though it is a fruit. The ‘bulbs’ of the jackfruit, which are huge, knobby, green fruits with yellow skin, are yellow.

Because it has a mild, sweet flavor (and serves as a flavor sponge in recipes) and a meaty texture, jackfruit is typically found in cans and is particularly popular in vegan cooking. Attempt grilled pulled jackfruit.

Jalapeno

The medium-sized jalapeo (Capsicum annuum) is a type of chili pepper. When fully grown, it is 5 to 10 cm in length, hangs down with solid, rounded flesh, and is 20 to 38 mm wide. The Scoville heat scale for jalapenos ranges from 4,000 to 8,500. You can purchase them fresh, canned, pickled, or in jars.

Originally from Mexico, jalapeno peppers are a variety of hot pepper that is also widely consumed in South and Central America. They have a variety of flavors, from moderate to hot. Did you realize that Chipotle is made from smoked and dried jalapenos? Although they are a staple of Mexican cooking, jalapenos are widely available in supermarkets in the UK and the US.

It is offered raw as a street food snack in Mexico. Jicama should be peeled and cut into thin slices or sticks before being seasoned with salt, lime juice, and chili powder.
