Zhao was born on 8 August 1994 in Lanzhou, Gansu. He spent 10 years performing as a dancer after graduating from Shanghai Theatre Academy. Zhao joined the Taiwanese boyband SpeXial on July 14 of the same year and helped record their fourth album, Boyz on Fire. Zhao announced on March 20, 2017, that he would be leaving SpeXial for an undisclosed reason. Three days later, on March 23, he left the organization, having joined less than a year earlier.
