An identity card is a mandatory document for any person. You get it when you reach a certain age. Modern civil passports are of two main types:
- ID card (plastic).
- Paper passport in the form of a book.
Both documents are official and have legal effect when presented to state and other authorities. The ID is issued by an institution authorized to do so. In some cases, a passport can be made on the basis of an ID template PSD. Such a document is an alternative to a regular passport.
What is an ID card?
The ID card is a document that certifies the identity of the person who presents it, as well as the citizenship of the country in which it was issued. ID or civil passport is a new type of document, which contains biometric data (stored in encrypted form). ID card is different from ordinary paper passports.
Polycarbonate, a multi-layer polymer material, is used for production. It is presented in the form of a card and has the outward resemblance to a bank card. ID passport ID-1 format (card size is 54 x 85.6 mm) is made according to RFID standard and has a contactless electronic carrier (chip) embedded in a plastic. The chip contains:
- Personal data of the passport holder.
- Other information.
The peculiarity of such a document is the built-in electronic carrier of information.
For citizens of some countries issuance of an official plastic identity card is a mandatory procedure, while in other countries getting an ID card is voluntary. Also depending on the legislation of this or that country the age of obtaining the first and repeated plastic passport varies.
What information is contained on the ID passport
The new-type ID card contains information on the front, back and contactless electronic carrier (chip).
Front side
Contains:
- Photo;
- The owner’s last name, first name and patronymic (if any);
- Gender;
- Date, month, year of birth;
- The period until which the document is valid;
- Nationality;
- Signature.
Surname, first name, sex, nationality are written in the language of the country that issued the identity card, as well as duplicated in Latin letters. In addition, on the front side there is the number of the passport, the number of entries, under which the document is registered in the Unified State Demographic Register.
The flip side
- Date when the passport was issued;
- Name of the state agency that issued the document;
- Place of birth.
Information contained on the ID card chip
The electronic medium is stored in encrypted form.
- Information that is listed on the front and back sides of the passport;
- Biometric data (photograph and signature of the holder in a digitized format);
- Fingerprints (optional);
- Data to ensure protection of information stored on a contactless electronic carrier.
When using the ID template PSD, you can create an alternative ID card by editing the data in a special program.
When to get an ID card
Obtaining an identification card is mandatory:
- The first time and again when you reach a certain age. You can get a modern ID card instead of pasting a new photo in the traditional paper passport.
- When you change your last name (marriage, divorce or other reasons) or name.
- If the document is mechanically damaged, when reading information becomes impossible.
- If your passport has been stolen or lost.
- When detecting errors in the entered information or the need to add new data that cannot be entered without reissuing the document.
What are the advantages of new passports
There are many advantages of ID cards, but among the main ones we can highlight:
- High level of document protection against forgery by introducing modern technologies. Due to this the possibility of using the document for illegal purposes is excluded.
- Convenient use and storage of the document due to its small size.
- Increased durability, resistance to wear and tear and to negative external factors (ultraviolet light), water resistance.
- Storage of additional information on a chip (tax identification number, residence registration data, marital status and others) allows not to carry a great number of paper documents.
An ID card is more than just a document that identifies a person. They have a wide range of functionality, which allows them to perform other tasks. In addition to confirming identity, an ID card can also be used to access electronic services (online banking, others), as a means of electronic signature (when signing contracts, confirming transactions), as a client card, and for other purposes.
Document security
Ensuring the security of plastic ID cards is important. The person receiving the ID card is given an envelope with codes:
- PIN;
- PUK.
Without them, ID cards cannot be used electronically. Electronic identification of a person is secure until the PIN and PUK codes, along with the card, are in the wrong hands.
When the use of alternative documents is required
Identification card, made on the basis of ID template PSD, is used for:
- Electronic payment systems;
- Electronic wallets;
- World-renowned trading platforms;
- Cryptoservices;
- Domain name registrars;
- Online banking.
Also, high quality ID template PSDs are used for checking restricted, blocked or suspended accounts.
