Being an entrepreneur is a highly stressful job. Of course, many jobs fall under this category, but an owner of a small business probably cares more about their business than a person who simply works for somebody else.
The levels of responsibility and care are high with these people and these factors are the ones that cause the most stress.
Effective Ways for Entrepreneurs to De-Stress
Unfortunately, as we all know, stress is the number one illness of the 21st century and we have to fight it anyway we can as it can lead to serious health conditions.
However, the problem with these workaholics is that they are rarely aware of the fact that they are stressed out and usually deny it when others try to point it out. Don’t be stubborn, there are many subtle indicators of stress such as insomnia, migraines, anxiety or a feeling of general exhaustion. We are here to advise you to develop new habits that will help you in the battle against stress.
Take a Walk
Many doctors nowadays urge everyone to take walks on a daily basis. An hour a day can take the stress away. Regardless of your age and physical abilities, taking a walk should be a simple activity with great effects. Walking makes us more satisfied and happy, it releases tension and reduces stress and is an excellent cardio for which our heart is very grateful.
Saying you don’t have time is merely an excuse as anyone can set aside one hour from their busy day to take a walk. You can do it on your own or with someone, in silence or listening to music. Just make sure that you dedicate one hour a day to yourself.
Exercise
Many people are reluctant to exercise in order to reduce stress since they feel exercising is also a form of stress. According to an article from Harvard Medical School, this is true. However, the stress we put ourselves through while exercising is physical, not mental. Since physical stress alleviates our worries, people should exercise in order to relieve stress.
It’s never too late to start exercising. Even if you’ve never done it before, buy yourself some quality gym wear and hit the gym. If you feel like you need guidance, hire a trainer or ask for advice at the gym and start. You will soon realise how good you will feel after a workout.
Travel
Another great way to relieve stress is to travel. You probably think this takes up a lot of time and money, so it’s just not practical. Not necessarily, nobody said you need to go far or stay long. Simply spend your weekend on a nearby mountain or rent a house on a lake.
It doesn’t need to be anything exclusive. The only goal is to relax. Two or three days will be enough. Just switch off your mobile phone, leave your laptop at home, and spend a weekend in nature reading books and breathing fresh air.
Go to a Spa
Spas and wellness centres are getting more attention recently. They have become a trend for modern business people as they allow one to relax and unwind without even leaving the city. Hitting the sauna or getting a massage on a weekly basis can do wonders for your body and your mind. Your muscles will relax and you’ll probably sleep better, thus you will feel less tense and stressed.
We hope you were able to find inspiration in these words and decided to take up an activity that will improve your health. Whether you are stressed out or you’d like to lead a healthier life balancing your work and free time, you should introduce one of these habits into your life.
Remember, people are most productive when their physical and mental aspects of life are in balance. This means that you should not do solely intellectual work, but you should also be physically active. This will have positive effects on both your health and your efficiency. 🙂
