It is a non-ministerial position at Pay Level 1 of the 7th Pay Commission matrix (basic pay ₹18,000 to ₹56,900); under the 6th Pay Commission this was Pay Band 1 (₹5,200 to ₹20,200) with a ₹1,800 grade pay. The salaries of all government employees grew by over 20% after the implementation of the 7th pay commission.

Promotions in SSC MTS

Even if the employee does not take the exam, an SSC MTS can be promoted to LDC through a departmental examination. After 5-6 years of service, he will be promoted to LDC by default, depending on the number of vacancies.
Any MTS employee who has been promoted to LDC after passing the tests can be promoted to UDC by passing another department exam. Otherwise, he may be promoted by default when his term of service expires.
