Free website value calculators produce a number in about two seconds, and that number is close to meaningless. They are entertainment. If you want to know what a site is actually worth — because you are buying, selling, or deciding whether to keep investing in it — the calculation is different, it is not automatic, and it starts with profit rather than traffic.
Why the free estimators are unreliable
Look at what these tools traditionally fed into their formula: Alexa rank, Google PageRank, DMOZ listing, estimated daily page views and estimated ad revenue. The first three no longer exist. Alexa was retired in 2022, Google stopped publishing PageRank publicly in 2016, and DMOZ closed in 2017. Any calculator still weighing them is arithmetic on ghosts.
The remaining inputs are guesses too. No external tool can see your traffic — it infers it from panels and clickstream samples that are unreliable at small scale, which is where almost every site lives. It cannot see your revenue at all, so it applies an assumed ad rate to an assumed pageview count. Two wrong numbers multiplied together produce a confident-looking third one.
This is why the same domain returns wildly different valuations across several of these sites on the same afternoon. They are not measuring; they are extrapolating from public signals that no longer correlate with earnings.
How websites are actually valued
Sites are bought and sold on a multiple of profit, not traffic. The working formula in the broker market is straightforward:
Average monthly net profit × a multiple
The multiple typically runs somewhere between the mid-twenties and the low forties, expressed in months. A site clearing $1,000 a month in genuine profit is therefore worth roughly $25,000 to $40,000 depending on everything below. The averaging window matters: buyers usually work from a trailing twelve-month average, or a shorter recent window if the site is growing, precisely so that one good month cannot inflate the figure.
What moves the multiple up or down
| Factor | Raises the multiple | Lowers it |
|---|---|---|
| Traffic source | Direct, email and diversified search | Everything from one algorithm or one platform |
| Revenue source | Several streams, or one under your control | A single ad network or one affiliate programme |
| Trend | Growing steadily over 12 months | Declining, or one viral spike |
| Age | Years of history to inspect | Months |
| Owner dependence | Documented, delegated, runs without you | Everything is in your head |
| Content risk | Original, defensible, hard to copy | Thin, spun, or in a penalised niche |
Owner dependence is the one people underestimate. A buyer is purchasing a machine that keeps producing after you leave. If the site depends on your writing, your relationships or your undocumented process, the multiple falls no matter how good the profit line looks.
Work out your own number in ten minutes
1. Add up the last twelve months of revenue from every source and divide by twelve.
2. Subtract genuine running costs — hosting, tools, contractors, content — but not your own time.
3. That gives average monthly net profit.
4. Multiply by 25 for a conservative floor and by 40 for an optimistic ceiling.
5. Move within that range using the table above.
The result is a range, not a price, and that is the honest form of the answer. What settles it is a buyer, and the number they pay reflects what they can see in your analytics and payment records rather than what any calculator reports.
If your site earns nothing yet
Then it has no valuation in this sense, and no tool can invent one. What it has is assets a buyer might pay for separately: an aged domain, a genuine audience, ranking content, or a brand someone wants. These trade on negotiation rather than a formula, and typically for far less than owners expect. The route to a real valuation is to make the site earn something measurable for several months, because the multiple applies to profit and twelve times zero is zero.
Frequently asked questions
Are free website value calculators accurate?
No. They estimate traffic they cannot see, assume a revenue rate they cannot know, and several still weight signals such as Alexa rank and PageRank that no longer exist.
What multiple do websites sell for?
Commonly between roughly 25 and 40 times average monthly net profit, with the position in that range set by traffic diversity, revenue stability, growth, age and how much the site depends on its owner.
Does high traffic mean a site is valuable?
Not on its own. Traffic that does not convert is a cost rather than an asset. A small site earning steadily is worth more than a large one earning nothing.
Why do different calculators give completely different values?
Because each is guessing with a different formula and different third-party traffic estimates. The disagreement between them is the clearest evidence of how little any of them knows.
How do I prove my traffic and revenue to a buyer?
With read access to your analytics and screenshots or exports from the platforms that pay you, covering at least twelve months. Serious buyers verify both before making an offer.
Does domain age increase value?
Indirectly. Age gives a buyer more history to inspect and suggests durability, but an old domain with no profit still has no meaningful valuation.

There are now many website value calculator for that purpose. I think these website’s should be used to see SEO data for your website. If someone uses them just for checking website worth, then it’s not a good idea. They are virtual tools and can only provide just an estimate but never a true value. I also recommend digsitevalue.org and howmuchismywebsite.com both are useful tools with modest results. I believe results from these tools are just visuals of a site’s potential, but as far as I am concerned, doing your job with SEO and other stuff and holding on to your site for quite some time would give it a fair value given your time of attention you have given your website in terms of optimization. Good post my man!
