How To Study Chemistry For Neet

With the covid-19 pandemic, people have realized the need for doctors in the country. NEET – National Eligibility cum entrance test is one of the biggest medical entrance exams in India. Students of class 12 who aspire to become doctors must start their journey with NEET.

How to Prepare for NEET Chemistry 2022

NEET pattern

Recently, the National testing agency has changed the question paper pattern of NEET. According to that, the question paper consists of 4 subjects i.e. Physics, Chemistry, Botany, Zoology. Each subject carries 180 marks. Thus the total marks become 720 marks. In each subject, there will be two sections i.e. Section A and Section B.

• Section -A: It has 35 questions. This section carries 140 marks. No choice will be given in this section.
• Section B: It has 15 questions. This section carries 40 marks. There is a choice in this section. Students need to answer 10 out of 15 questions.

The mode of the exam is offline i.e. pen and paper mode. There will be 4 marks awarded for each correct answer and 1 mark will be deducted for each wrong answer.

Physical chemistry

Under this category, the questions regarding the physical interactions and transformation of materials will be asked.

This category includes topics like Some Basic Concept of Chemistry, The state of Matter, Structure of Atom, Chemical Bonding and Molecular Structure, Chemical Thermodynamics, Equilibrium, Redox Reaction, Solid State, Solutions, Electrochemistry, Chemical Kinetics, Surface Chemistry, etc. Around 15-20 questions are expected from this category.

Organic chemistry

Under this category, questions regarding carbon covalent bonding will be asked. The topics like General Organic Chemistry, Hydrocarbons, Organic Compounds Containing Halogen, Alcohol, Phenol & EtherAldehydes, Ketones and Carboxylic Acid Organic Compound Containing Nitrogen will come under this category. Around 14-18 questions are expected from this category.

Inorganic chemistry

This category includes questions from topics like Classification of Element and Periodicity, Hydrogen,s- block Elements, p- block Elements, Environmental Chemistry,p- block Element, d- and f- block Elements, General Principle and Process of Isolation of Elements, Coordination Compound, etc will be asked. From this category, 10-15 questions will be asked.

How to prepare?

Focus on NCERT

If you can keenly observe, there is no new topic in the syllabus. It is entirely designed from the CBSE syllabus of classes 11 and 12. So, to improve and understand the fundamentals of each of the above topics well, NCERT is the right study material.

Without a doubt, aspirants need to focus on the standard books of chemistry. However, you can kick start your preparation with NCERT easily. It is also observed that more than 30-40% of questions in the NEET question paper are from solved examples and exercises at the end of each chapter. So, you can boost your score with NCERT.

Complete highest importance topics first

The students should start their preparation with the topics with the highest weightage. Since the highest weightage topics represent the importance of it indirectly, it is good to complete them first. The order of your preparation must be like this.

• Highest importance – must prepare first.
• Medium importance.
• Least importance.

But students need to remember that, least important topics should not be neglected from their preparation. It is just to be prepared later than the most important and important questions.
