Delhi University Or IPU? A Comparative Study On Undergraduate Journalism Course and Its Scope

Bachelor of Journalism and Mass Communication (BJMC) or BA (Hons) in Journalism is an undergraduate course for aspirants who want to pursue a career in the media industry. The course duration is for 3 years. In DU, it is offered as BA (Hons) in Journalism.

To take admissions into the Delhi University (DU), students need to clear the DU Journalism entrance test. For admissions into IPU, one needs to clear the IPU CET. A minimum of 45 – 50% marks is needed in 10+2 for being eligible to take admission into various colleges.

For getting admission into Delhi University colleges, one needs to secure a minimum of 45% marks in 10+2 passed from any recognized university. English language should be the medium of language for the candidates.

The mode of admission is both entrance and merit-based, each category holding 50% seats. Based on the college the candidate gets selected to, the course fee differs. This is usually within the range of Rs 50,000 to Rs 1,00,000.

Average salary after completion of the course is Rs 6 lakhs per annum. One of the top colleges offering BA Journalism under DU are  Lady Shri Ram College  and Delhi School of Journalism.

Registration process at Delhi University

  • Follow the online admission portal: http://du.ac.in/ and see through the guidelines for more details and forms.
  • The registration is done only once, either offline or online.
  • You can pay through internet banking or using your Debit/Credit card.
  • You can register online through the same portal by paying an additional fee of Rs 100. However, the quota does not debar you from the entrance based admissions.
  • You need to appear for the entrance on the scheduled date.

4] BJMC from Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University

Candidates seeking admission in IPU can apply through their official website. IPU is a state university located in New Delhi. IPU CET is the standard entrance test for admission into BJMC courses. In CETs, a separate merit list is prepared by the university.

The final admission is based on counselling. For this particular course of interest, there is the option of online counselling. The online counselling window for 2020 starts from 8th June to 7th July 2020. The average fee is Rs. 65,000.

Average salary after completion of BJMC course is Rs 7 lakhs per annum. For students who apply through sports, the quota will have to pay an additional fee of Rs. 100 while applying for the IPU CET.
