Lying is part and parcel of student lives. Some tutors and lecturers have fallen into deceptions especially the “white lies” or sophisticated scams and frauds. We find lying in different scandals especially both in economic and political fields as well as in social interactions. Therefore, people realize that it’s hard to detect lies hence it is a major challenge in the current academic fields.

Lying with Good Intentions in College or Tuition Classes

Children are fond of telling lies because they serve their purpose. Such goals include covering an activity up in order not to get into trouble, to gauge their anticipations on your response to the lie, to ensure they make their stories interesting, grab people’s attention and to get anything they need.

Lying continues even at the college level due to challenges amidst time constraints. Therefore, students cheat in their assignments, paraphrasing other authors’ works, paying professional writers when they need help with essays, delve into the fabrication of data, give wrong information, engage in dishonest behaviors etc.

1) Ways of cheating in college: Tutors as victims of cheating

Students use numerous ways of lying in colleges. Instructors are the primary victims of lying in collages. Students pay different custom writing services like essay zoo and cheating on exams. Students take advantage of the syllabus that does not change often and, therefore, use similar assignments or same term papers over time.

The second way that tutors have fallen victim of cheats by students is plagiarism. The activity happens when a student uses another person’s assignment or when a student gives a colleague his task to copy. Besides, some students copy assignments in the examination halls and use such assignments to do an examination. Separately, students copy information regarding a given question directly from the internet and own such information during evaluation without acknowledging the source.

Cheating in examination rooms constitutes a third way that a student uses to dupe their lecturers. In most cases, students carry textbooks, formulas, written notes as well as audio lectures to the examination rooms. In other cases, teachers and other inspection officers participate in cheating activities where they provide reference materials, questions, and other leakages before the examination dates. Therefore, students equip themselves with information before reaching the exam room hence they only examine confirmation of the information that is in their possession.

2) Lying to peers

Peers form the second victims of lies among the students. In most cases, students lie to their colleagues to escape embarrassments with a purpose of avoiding loss of self-esteem as well as their position in a social setting. Separately, students engage in lies to gain an advantage, especially on material gain. For example, students participate in fib to get items at no cost or affordable prices.

Separately, students lie to get esteem among their colleagues. Students might lie about their family life, their private lives, achievements, wealth and even parents to get admiration from others.  In such occasions, students lie to successfully manage their impression especially in work areas, and romantic lives. Consequently, other students usually think well of them and see them as competent people or successful people in life.

3) Lying to parents

Is lying to parents for privacy ethical?

A parent sometimes falls prey to student lies. Such activities develop from the childhood ages where children cheat their parents for escapes. In most cases, children at their tender ages develop their guile nature and delve into lies to avoid punishment or get rewards.

Later on college, students, especially those who stay away from home, cheat their parents on matters such as academic performance, about financial situation or lie about their relationships. In most cases, students get into money problems and run out of cash to sustain their college lives. Therefore, they lie to their parents about academic endeavors to get money for upkeep.

4) Circumstances for ‘good lies’

Students participate in lies that can be considered as lying with good intentions. Such lies are justifiable upon scrutiny. For example, students lie to help their colleagues. In most cases, students are reserved in telling their friends their actual personal lives since they know they will upset their colleagues.

Besides, ones lie to save their faces and maintain the esteem of their colleagues. Separately, students lie to their parents to affirm to them that they fair on well in college. Therefore, the parents remain unworried about their children’s school lives even if they face difficult problems and challenges.

Conclusion

In a nutshell, lying is part of life of both children and adult. In colleges, lies are rampant, and most victims are tutors, peers, and parents. Thus, for whatever reason, lies may be either for bad or good reasons. For example, the student may lie to help others psychologically, support their egos or for material advantage. Therefore, it is better to understand the reason for lying to identify the type of deception.

On the same note, knowing the truth about a lie may help in justifying the actions of a student by elaborating on their various reasons such as avoiding shame among others. Lastly, it is essential for parents and teachers to teach children the right values and shun their minds from the benefits of lies by encouraging them to tell the truth.
