Note (September 2026): This review was first published in 2021, and SiteGround’s prices, storage and traffic allowances and control panel have changed since; it is also no longer on WordPress.org’s recommended-hosts page. The figures below have been updated from SiteGround’s own pages.

SiteGround is a Bulgarian web host, founded in 2004, that runs on Google Cloud and is known for managed WordPress hosting, 24/7 support and strong security tools. As of September 2026, its shared plans start at $3.99 per month for the first year but renew at $17.99 to $44.99 per month, so the renewal cost is the key trade-off.

Key Takeaways

  • SiteGround offers three shared plans (StartUp, GrowBig and GoGeek), all with free SSL, CDN, email and daily backups, as of September 2026.
  • Introductory prices of $3.99, $6.69 and $10.69 per month rise to $17.99, $29.99 and $44.99 per month on renewal.
  • All plans now allow unlimited traffic; storage is 10 GB, 50 GB and 100 GB.
  • Support is available 24/7 by chat, phone and ticket, and hosting carries a 30-day money-back guarantee.
  • SiteGround uses its own Site Tools control panel, not cPanel.

With most of the business being done using the internet, there has been a huge demand for website creation and hosting services. Many websites today run on WordPress, and one of the best-known managed hosts for them is SiteGround.

SiteGround Hosting Reviews & Ratings

SiteGround Web Hosting Review

SiteGround is one of the most popular web hosting companies that are available currently. SiteGround was founded in 2004 in Sofia, Bulgaria, and Wikipedia reports that it hosted over 3,000,000 domains as of April 2023. As of September 2026, W3Techs reports that SiteGround is the hosting provider for 2.0% of all websites.

With several plans available and excellent reviews provided by a myriad of clients worldwide, it is worth checking whether SiteGround lives up to its reputation, including the parts that have changed since this review was first written.

SiteGround has clear strengths, but it also has real drawbacks, the biggest being renewal prices that are several times the introductory rates. If security and site loading speed matter more than add on bonuses and price, then SiteGround should be your preferred web hosting platform.

However, before we begin to delve deeper into the pros and cons of web hosting, let us learn a bit more about it.

1] What is SiteGround?

There are several millions of users who wish to turn an entrepreneur thanks to an innovative idea, brilliant product, and spectacular marketing skills. However, to do this you need to set up a website that connects you to your customers. If you do not have the skills to prepare a website, there are professionals to help you.

SiteGround - Powered by Google Cloud

Similarly, you can also seek the assistance of a website hosting platform to not just host your website but also manage them. Since the website is your dream and your source of earning, you need your host to provide not just immaculate service but also excellent support.

If the website has any technical glitches it can affect the user’s experience and thereby your income. Thus, excellent hosting service is important.

SiteGround Web Hosting

Founded in 2004, SiteGround offers a range of hosting services (shared hosting, cloud hosting, WordPress hosting, VPS hosting, dedicated servers, and enterprise hosting). As of September 2026, WordPress.org’s recommended hosts are Pressable, Bluehost and Hostinger, not SiteGround, but SiteGround’s plans still include managed WordPress features such as auto-updates and free migrations.

SiteGround comes highly recommended by not only WordPress but also Joomla and Drupal. SiteGround migrated all of its hosted domains to Google Cloud in 2020, according to Wikipedia. As of September 2026, SiteGround lists NGINX, HTTP/2, TLS 1.3, Brotli compression, a custom Ultrafast PHP setup and its SuperCacher caching layers as part of its stack.

2] What makes SiteGround popular than its contemporaries?

WordPress is one of the most popular content management systems in the world on which most websites and blogs are built.

Among the many web hosts available, SiteGround has long been popular in WordPress communities; an earlier version of this review cited members of WordPress Hosting (a closed Facebook group with nearly 7,000 members at the time) preferring SiteGround, which could not be verified today. Some of the main features of this web hosting platform which set them apart from other web hosting platforms include.

1) Site speed

The popularity of any website depends on the traffic it generates. People love to go on a website that gives them faster loading and processing speed. The speed of any website makes it user-friendly and SiteGround offers a considerably faster loading website.

Loading speed after a move to SiteGround depends on the site, its caching and visitor location, so results vary; time to first byte (TTFB) tools are a common way to compare speed before and after switching. Site speed matters immensely as people navigate to a different site if loading takes more time.

For SiteGround, site speed is a serious matter and their developers continue to work on new technology to improve site loading time. SiteGround says its Google Cloud infrastructure uses distributed SSD storage, and as of September 2026 it lists 11 data centers across North America, Europe, Asia and Australia.

Site speed

NGINX web server technology also adds to loading time for static content on the website. The SuperCacher is their web caching mechanism which relies on NGINX reverse proxy and plays an important role in loading dynamic content from the website. Regular updates to their technology ensure that the sites they host do not suffer.

2) Security

One of the primary concerns of people regarding websites is the security of the site. Security breaches are one of the major concerns not just of individuals but organizations too. Both corporations and government groups have felt the brunt of an online security breach. In fact, security is a major concern for anyone who owns a website.

SiteGround offers one of the most reliable security that makes your site safe. The security features which make them unique include site isolation that guarantees that despite security breach on any other site on the server, your site will not be negatively impacted.

Thus, the hosting site acts as a firewall that protects you and your site from hackers. The servers support HTTP/2 and TLS 1.3; HTTP/2 mainly improves loading speed, while TLS 1.3 handles the encryption of connections.

Website Security

Additionally, SiteGround also offers its clients the benefit of a web application firewall (WAF) which is updated regularly and protects against any security breach. Moreover, in case any threat emerges, all the clients receive proactive patches.

No host can guarantee that a site stays secure. As of September 2026, SiteGround lists a constantly updated WAF, AI-powered bot protection and its free Security Optimizer WordPress plugin. Earlier versions of this review said SiteGround stopped 7 million brute-force attempts, mitigated 186 DDoS attacks, wrote 250 new custom firewall rules and added 125 live-patch kernel modules; those figures were undated and are unverified.

3) Customer support

If only excellent site speed and state-of-the-art security were the major concerns, there would be several hosting sites that could boast of an impressive clientele. However, without excellent customer support to go with all the technology, it is of no use.

This is because things are bound to go wrong, and they eventually will. Without the aid of exceptional client support, they will fall flat. SiteGround boasts of admirable client support where the customer is the priority. A testimony to their service can be seen through several customer reviews and ratings.

Trusted By Clients And Industry Experts

Customer support

Customer support is one of SiteGround’s most praised areas. An earlier version of this review quoted an average response time of about 8 minutes versus 44 minutes for competitors, but that comparison was undated and unsourced. As of September 2026, SiteGround says over 90% of chat inquiries are resolved at first contact and reports a 4.9 out of 5 rating on Trustpilot; both are company-reported figures.

There are three ways to reach the customer support of SiteGround. These include a live chat system that provides an immediate reply and is available 24 hours a day. Another method to contact their customer support is by dialing their helpline number.

SiteGround says phone support is available 24/7. Alternatively, you can submit a ticket from the account dashboard; SiteGround says most ticket inquiries receive a response within minutes, not within a fixed 10 minutes as earlier versions of this review said. Priority support is included in the GoGeek plan, according to SiteGround’s plan comparison.

If you are worried about any problem with your site, you can trust SiteGround to provide you with a timely response. Thus, they ensure that your business and as a result, you never suffer.

3] Additional features of SiteGround that attract various customers

Apart from this, other parameters that attract users to SiteGround include the site load time and uptime. If you are looking for a web hosting platform that offers a loading time of less than 1 second, then it is great for the industry as well as the user.

Most users are looking for a web hosting platform that gives faster site loading, uptime, and speed of the site. The 99.79% industry-average uptime figure quoted in earlier versions of this review was unsourced, and uptime can vary from month to month. SiteGround says it checks server status every 0.5 seconds; check its current Terms of Service for the uptime guarantee and any compensation that applies to your plan.

There are several plans that SiteGround offers for its clients and along with all of them you get managed WordPress hosting. Along with that you also get several astonishing features like.

Additional features

  • Free SSL Certificates: As of September 2026, all plans include a free, pre-installed wildcard SSL certificate, and SiteGround says it was one of the first hosting platforms to integrate Let’s Encrypt SSL.
  • Daily Backups: SiteGround keeps up to 30 daily backup copies on shared hosting, according to its knowledge base. On-demand backups are a GrowBig and GoGeek feature; on StartUp, manual backup slots come with the paid Premium Backup add-on.
  • Email Service: With SiteGround you get unlimited email accounts. The free SpamExperts spam filter named in earlier versions of this review could not be confirmed on SiteGround’s current pages, so check the current email features before relying on it.
  • Staging tool: You can test changes on a copy of your site before publishing them with SiteGround’s one-click Staging tool, which, as of September 2026, is included in the GrowBig and GoGeek plans (GoGeek adds Git) but not in StartUp.
  • Dev Toolkit: Various development tools like WP-CLI, SSH access, PHP version control etc. are available to make your work easy and fast.
  • Collaboration Tools: Have multiple collaborators working on the same thing, SiteGround is there to help you. With it you can easily add collaborators, transfer sites to clients and provide your clients with access to their site’s Site Tools!
  • Round-the-clock server monitoring (the 99.99% uptime figure in earlier versions of this list was not a stated guarantee; see SiteGround’s Terms of Service).
  • Daily backups.
  • Free SSL and CDN.
  • Tools for developers and agencies.
  • Great features for reseller hosting.

Additional features of SiteGround

Moreover, you also get all WordPress updates through any of the SiteGround subscription plans. Automatic updates of WordPress plug-ins are also available. Any vulnerabilities on WordPress are taken care of through their firewall WAF updates to protect the client from any attack.

4] Different SiteGround Plans for all your hosting needs

SiteGround offers three different plans for shared hosting services. These include.

1) StartUp Plan

This is an excellent entry-level plan for beginners. As of September 2026, SiteGround’s US site lists StartUp at $3.99 per month for the first 12-month prepaid term, renewing at $17.99 per month (up from the $3.95 and $11.95 quoted when this review was first written). It hosts 1 website with unlimited traffic; the older guideline of about 10,000 monthly visits no longer appears. Prices change and vary by region and currency.

Apart from the 10GB webspace, you also get SSD storage, free setup and site transfer, 99.9% uptime guarantee, unlimited bandwidth, emails, databases, and 30-day money-back guarantee.

Additionally, you are also provided with 24×7 technical support, free SSL & HTTP/2, daily backups, a free CDN (Cloudflare when this review was first written), SuperCacher caching, PHP with OpCache, Site Tools (SiteGround’s in-house control panel, which replaced cPanel) & SSH access, WordPress & Joomla tools.

2) GrowBig Plan

Just like the Startup plan, all plans of SiteGround are reasonably priced. As of September 2026, the GrowBig plan is listed at $6.69 per month for the first 12-month prepaid term, renewing at $29.99 per month (it was $5.95 and $19.95 when this review was first written). You can host unlimited websites with one hosting account; thus, it is more suitable for small business owners and bloggers.

You get two times more server resources and several other salient features including the use of Supercacher static, dynamic and Memcache caching technology. And You also get a free wildcard SSL certificate along with basic backup and restore services in the GrowBig plan.

SiteGround now lists GrowBig with unlimited traffic, 50 GB of storage, daily and on-demand backups and staging, replacing the 25,000 monthly visits and 20GB web storage quoted in earlier versions of this review; priority support is now listed only on GoGeek.

3) GoGeek Plan

Along with all the benefits of the StartUp and GrowBig plans, you also get several other geeky features in this plan, which, as of September 2026, is listed at $10.69 per month for the first 12-month prepaid term and $44.99 per month on renewal (it was $11.95 and $34.95 when this review was first written). You can host unlimited websites with unlimited traffic and 100 GB of storage, up from the 100,000 monthly visits and 30GB web-space quoted earlier.

Apart from the SuperCacher dynamic and Memcache caching, you also get 1-click WordPress staging, pre-installed, and SG-Git for repository creation.

4x server, database and email resources, premium backup and restore services and free PCI compliance are some additional features of this plan. In a nutshell, this plan is ideal for websites that get heavy traffic and heavy influx of resources.

Different SiteGround Plans

In case you are confused about which plan to choose, keep in mind your ultimate objective for web hosting service and then decide which plan would best suit your needs.

5] Advantages and Disadvantages of using SiteGround as your web hosting platform

If you find that SiteGround is the perfect web hosting platform for you, you should go ahead and choose from the different hosting plans they offer. If, however, you are still contemplating whether to use this platform or some other, here is a list of the pros and cons of using SiteGround.

1) Pros

Among the various advantages of opting for this web hosting platform are.

  • Money-back guarantee – As of September 2026, SiteGround offers a 30-day money-back guarantee on its hosting plans. Thus, you can try SiteGround and if you are not satisfied with their claims, you can always have your money back.
  • Several free services – If you are already using any other web hosting platform, SiteGround offers a chance for free website migration along with daily automatic backup and restore.
  • WordPress services – Automatic WordPress installation and managed WordPress hosting on all its plans is something that can help your site tremendously.
  • Excellent speed and security – SiteGround uses innovative technologies for speed & security of sites.

2) Cons

The main disadvantages of SiteGround are renewal prices that are roughly four to five times the introductory rates (StartUp renews at $17.99 versus $3.99 per month as of September 2026), limited storage on the StartUp plan (10 GB), and a strict resource over-usage policy. Wikipedia notes that SiteGround made major price increases in 2021 and 2022. But this could be seen also as an advantage, because that way they distribute server resources fairly and no site suffers from the excessive use of resources from another site, which guarantees better website performance to each client.

Visit SiteGround

To summarize, SiteGround is a well-established managed WordPress host with strong support and security tooling; its renewal prices mean it best suits site owners who value service and features over the lowest possible cost.

SiteGround Plans and Prices Compared

The table below shows SiteGround’s shared hosting plans as listed on its US website in September 2026. Introductory prices apply to the first 12-month prepaid term; prices change often and vary by region and currency.

Plan Intro price Renewal price Websites Storage Notable extras
StartUp $3.99/mo $17.99/mo 1 10 GB Free SSL, CDN, email, daily backups
GrowBig $6.69/mo $29.99/mo Unlimited 50 GB On-demand backups, staging, faster PHP
GoGeek $10.69/mo $44.99/mo Unlimited 100 GB Staging + Git, priority support, faster PHP

Is SiteGround Worth It?

SiteGround suits small businesses, agencies and bloggers who want managed WordPress hosting with 24/7 support, daily backups and built-in security, and who can accept the renewal price.

SiteGround is a weaker fit for anyone on a tight long-term budget, because renewal prices are roughly four to five times the first-year rates. Before buying, compare the renewal price, not just the headline offer, and read our guide to questions to ask when choosing a web hosting service.

SiteGround pros and cons at a glance

Pros Cons
24/7 chat, phone and ticket support High renewal prices
Google Cloud infrastructure, 11 data centers Only 10 GB storage on StartUp
Free SSL, CDN, email and daily backups Staging and on-demand backups not on StartUp
30-day money-back guarantee No cPanel, which some users prefer

SiteGround Alternatives

If SiteGround’s renewal pricing does not fit, compare it with budget and cloud options such as those in our Hostinger review and Cloudways managed cloud hosting review. New site owners may also want to read what web hosting is first, and growing sites should know when to move from shared hosting to a VPS.
