Blog Commenting Sites List: Do Comment Backlinks Work?

Digital Updated:

Note (September 2026): The PageRank (PR) scores in the lists below are historical: Google stopped showing Toolbar PageRank in April 2016, so they no longer describe these sites. Earlier versions also said nofollow comment links are ignored by search engines; since March 2020 Google has treated nofollow and ugc as hints.

Blog commenting sites are blogs that let readers post a comment with their name and website URL. According to Google, comment links should carry the rel=”ugc” or rel=”nofollow” attribute, and WordPress adds both by default, so a comment rarely passes ranking value. Its real benefits are relationships, referral visits and brand visibility in a niche.

Key Takeaways

  • Most blog comment links are marked nofollow and ugc: WordPress adds both to external commenter links by default, and Google recommends ugc for comments and forum posts.
  • Since March 1, 2020, Google has treated nofollow, sponsored and ugc as hints rather than strict directives, but such links are still not a reliable way to gain ranking credit.
  • Google’s spam policies name forum comments with optimized links and comment spam on blogs as violations, so keyword-stuffed or mass comments carry real risk.
  • PageRank (PR) and Domain Authority (DA) are not live Google signals: Toolbar PageRank was switched off in April 2016, and DA is a third-party score from Moz.
  • Use blog commenting to join conversations and build relationships; use other methods, such as guest articles and linkable content, for backlinks.

What Is Blog Commenting & Does It Still Work for SEO?

Blog commenting is the process of engaging with blog posts by leaving a thoughtful comment — often including your name, email, website, and a valuable message. While it may sound simple, when done right, it’s one of the most underrated white-hat SEO strategies.

Here’s why blog commenting still matters:

  • It helps build contextual backlinks (especially from high DA websites).

  • It boosts your referral traffic.

  • It increases your brand’s visibility.

  • It improves your relationship with blog owners and audiences.

But not all blog commenting sites are equal. That’s why this article focuses only on blog commenting sites and on how to use them without risking a spam penalty.

Benefits of Using Blog Commenting Sites for SEO

When you use blog commenting the right way, you’re not just building backlinks — you’re laying a foundation for long-term SEO growth.

Key benefits

  • Gain dofollow and nofollow backlinks naturally.

  • Get referral traffic from niche-relevant sources.

  • Improve domain authority and credibility.

  • Build connections with blog authors and audiences.

  • Help new pages get discovered, since Google may still use nofollow and ugc links as crawling hints.

That’s why blog commenting sites for SEO are still popular, especially among freelancers, bloggers, marketers, and startups looking for quick SEO wins.

Types of Blog Commenting Sites

There are several types of blog commenting platforms you can find today. Here’s a simple breakdown:

Dofollow Blog Commenting Sites

These leave the commenter link without a rel qualifier, so search engines may follow and count it. They are now rare: WordPress, for example, adds ugc and nofollow to external commenter links by default.

Nofollow Blog Commenting Sites

These are marked nofollow or ugc, so Google generally does not treat them as endorsements (since March 2020 the attributes are hints, not strict rules), but they still help with referral traffic and indexing.

High DA Blog Commenting Sites

Sites with a Moz Domain Authority score above 50. Domain Authority is a third-party metric developed by Moz, not a Google ranking factor, so a high score does not by itself make a comment link valuable.

Free Blog Commenting Sites

No payment required — just register or comment directly.

Manual Blog Commenting Sites

Sites that approve comments only after moderation — ensuring spam-free backlinks.

Doing blog commenting without a strategy is like throwing spaghetti at the wall and hoping it sticks.

Here’s a proven method:

Step-by-step process:

  1. Find blog commenting sites list for link building (like the one below).

  2. Choose niche-relevant blogs.

  3. Read the post fully before commenting.

  4. Write genuine, valuable comments (avoid spam).

  5. Include your name + website if allowed.

  6. Be consistent weekly or monthly.

Avoid using generic messages like “Nice post” — they won’t get approved. Instead, provide value and show you read the article.

Tools to Find Blog Commenting Sites in Your Niche

Sometimes, you may want niche-specific or geo-targeted platforms. Here are some tools to help:

  • Ahrefs / Semrush – Filter blogs by niche + traffic + comment status.

  • Google Advanced Search – Use queries like:
"your niche" + "leave a comment"
    "blog post" + "comment section"

  • Scrapebox – Advanced users can scrape blog commenting sites.

  • BuzzSumo – Find top blog content where comments are allowed.

Do’s and Don’ts of Blog Commenting

To keep your blog commenting ethical and effective, follow these tips:

✅ Do:

  • Use your real name or branded username.

  • Read the blog post before commenting.

  • Add genuine thoughts or feedback.

  • Choose high DA blog commenting sites.

  • Be consistent but not spammy.

❌ Don’t:

  • Spam links or drop multiple URLs.

  • Use fake names or keywords as usernames.

  • Comment without reading the article.

  • Copy-paste the same message on every site.

Best Practices for Manual Blog Commenting That Gets Approved

Manual blog commenting takes time but delivers better SEO results. Here are a few best practices to ensure your comments get approved:

  • Mention something specific from the blog post.

  • Ask a follow-up question.

  • Offer an extra tip or related resource.

  • Keep your tone friendly and professional.

  • Don’t force your link — let it flow naturally.

This is how you separate yourself from spammers.

Let’s quickly compare blog commenting to other popular SEO strategies:

Method Cost Risk Time SEO Impact Scalability
Blog Commenting Free Low Medium Moderate High
Guest Posting Medium Low High High Medium
Forum Backlinks Free Medium Medium Low Medium
Paid Links High High Low High (Short-term) Low

In this simplified comparison, blog commenting looks like a low-risk, free way to start link building, especially for beginners and bloggers on a budget.

Niche & Country-Based Blog Commenting Sites

Want targeted traffic? Here’s how to find blog commenting sites based on your niche and country:

Niche Examples:

  • Tech blogs → Mashable, TechCrunch.

  • Health blogs → Healthline, MindBodyGreen.

  • Marketing blogs → Neil Patel, Moz.

  • Travel blogs → Nomadic Matt, The Planet D.

Country Examples:

  • India → ShoutMeLoud, BloggersPassion.

  • USA → HubSpot, Copyblogger.

  • UK → Smart Insights, Search Engine Watch.

Just tweak your commenting strategy based on your target audience and local SEO goals.

Common Mistakes to Avoid in Blog Commenting

Even today, many people make these avoidable errors:

  • Using spun/spammy comments.

  • Linking to low-quality or unrelated sites.

  • Commenting on non-indexed or penalized blogs.

  • Over-commenting on one domain.

  • Using keyword-rich names (e.g., “Best SEO Tools” instead of your real name).

These practices will hurt your SEO instead of helping it. Always stick to authentic engagement.

Once you’ve mastered the basics, use these tips to take your strategy to the next level:

  • Track your links using a spreadsheet or SEO tools.

  • Review your target list monthly and drop blogs that have closed comments, gone offline or filled up with spam.

  • Use Gravatar to show your image with comments.

  • Build relationships with blog authors.

  • Comment consistently on top blog commenting sites for traffic.

This builds your personal brand, improves trust, and creates a natural backlink profile over time.

Conclusion: Blog Commenting Still Works — If Done Right!

If you’re serious about growing your site, then blog commenting can be one useful part of your strategy. It’s cost-effective, beginner-friendly, and can support SEO indirectly, especially when you use high DA blog commenting sites with real traffic.

Just remember: it’s not about quantity — it’s about relevance and authenticity. Focus on value-driven comments, and you’ll see long-term benefits in SEO, branding, and online visibility.

I have created one video on the benefits of blog commenting on other blogs.

Must check following link building stuffs.

A blog comment link is a hyperlink placed either on the commenter’s name or inside the comment text. Whether that link can pass ranking value depends on the rel attribute the blog adds to it.

  • rel=”ugc”: introduced by Google in September 2019 for user-generated content. Google’s documentation on qualifying outbound links recommends marking links in comments and forum posts with ugc.
  • rel=”nofollow”: the original attribute, first suggested in 2005 to stop comment spam on blogs. Google says to use it when you would rather not associate your site with, or crawl, the linked page.
  • rel=”sponsored”: for advertisements and paid placements. It does not apply to ordinary comments.

WordPress builds commenter links with the ugc value and adds external and nofollow for links to other sites, according to the WordPress developer reference for get_comment_author_link. In practice, that means most “dofollow blog commenting sites” lists are describing an exception, not the norm.

Google announced in September 2019 that from March 1, 2020 it would treat nofollow, sponsored and ugc as hints rather than directives for crawling and indexing. A hint is not a guarantee of ranking credit, so comment links remain a weak signal at best.

Is the Blog Commenting Sites List Above Still Accurate?

The lists on this page were compiled years ago and are kept for reference. Treat them as a starting point to check, not as a verified directory. Several issues are visible even without testing every site:

  • PR scores are frozen. According to Wikipedia’s PageRank article, Toolbar PageRank was last updated in November 2013, and Google turned off its public display on April 15, 2016. The PR column shows old values that can no longer be checked.
  • Some entries are not blogs. For example, TripIt is a travel itinerary app, not a blog with an open comment section.
  • Some addresses have moved or gone quiet. The Kissmetrics blog address now permanently redirects to Neil Patel’s blog, and Matt Cutts’s blog showed a most recent post dated August 2023 when checked in September 2026.
  • Some entries repeat. Several domains appear twice or three times across the three lists, so the real number of unique sites is lower than the row count.

Before commenting anywhere, check that the blog still publishes, that comments are open, that recent posts get approved comments, and that the topic matches your own site.

A comment link’s status can be checked in any desktop browser.

  1. Open a blog post that already has approved comments.
  2. Right-click a commenter’s name and choose Inspect.
  3. Look at the rel attribute on the highlighted link. Values such as ugc, nofollow or external nofollow ugc mean the link is qualified.
  4. If the link has no rel attribute (or only noopener), it is a followed link.
  5. Note the result in your tracking sheet so you do not have to check the same blog twice.

Blog comments count as link spam when they exist mainly to place optimized links. Google’s spam policies, last updated in August 2026, give forum comments with optimized links in the post or signature as an example of link spam, and list comment spam on blogs under user-generated spam.

Warning signs that a comment would be treated as spam include keyword-rich anchor text instead of a name, several links in one comment, generic praise that could fit any post, and the same text pasted across many sites. Learn more about why exact-match anchors are risky in our guide to what anchor text is and how it affects SEO.

Blog owners also filter comments on their side. WordPress documentation suggests holding any comment that contains two or more links for moderation, and many sites use spam-filter plugins, so link-heavy comments are often never published.

Method Typical link type Main benefit Main risk
Blog commenting Usually nofollow and ugc Relationships, referral visits, visibility in a niche Spam if done at scale or with keyword anchors
Guest posting Editorial link inside an article Relevant audience and a contextual link Must not be paid or low-quality mass posting
Forum participation Usually nofollow and ugc Answering real questions, community trust Signature and profile link spam
Linkable content Editorial links earned naturally Durable links that match Google’s guidance Takes time and real expertise

For a wider view of these options, see our overview of link building strategies and techniques, the complete guide to guest posting, and why link building and content creation need to be balanced.

Who Should Use Blog Commenting?

Blog commenting suits people who want to become known in a specific community: new bloggers meeting peers in their niche, freelancers who want to be noticed by potential clients, and brands that want to take part in industry discussions.

Blog commenting does not suit anyone looking for fast ranking gains, bulk backlinks or automated posting. For those goals, the comment link’s nofollow or ugc status and Google’s spam policies make it a poor fit. Our explainer on the importance of using backlinks covers which kinds of links actually matter.

A Simple Blog Commenting Workflow

  1. Shortlist 10 to 20 active blogs in your topic, using the list above only as a starting point.
  2. Confirm each blog is live, has open comments and publishes approved comments from recent weeks.
  3. Read the full post and add something specific: a question, a data point, a counter-example or your own experience.
  4. Use your real name and your site’s home page or a genuinely relevant page as the website field.
  5. Track the result: blog, post, date, approval status and link attributes.
  6. Follow up when the author replies, since the relationship is usually worth more than the link.

FAQs: Blog Commenting Sites List

1. Are blog commenting sites still useful for SEO?

Partly. Most comment links are marked nofollow or ugc, so their direct ranking value is small. Done manually on relevant blogs, commenting still helps with discovery, referral visits, relationships and brand awareness.

2. How many blog comments should I do per week?

Google publishes no safe weekly number. Relevance and quality matter more than volume: a few thoughtful comments on blogs you actually read are better than a fixed quota.

Dofollow blog commenting sites do, while nofollow sites help with traffic and indexing.

4. Can I get penalized for blog commenting?

Yes, if the comments are spam. Google’s spam policies list forum comments with optimized links in the post or signature as link spam, and comment spam on blogs as user-generated spam. Relevant, value-adding comments without keyword anchors are the safe approach.

5. What’s the difference between dofollow and nofollow blog comments?

Dofollow links can pass SEO value. Nofollow and ugc links are not ignored outright: since March 2020 Google treats them as hints, but it generally does not count them as endorsements. Both types can still send traffic.

6. Can beginners do blog commenting?

Yes. Blog commenting is free and easy to start, but beginners should treat it as a way to join conversations in their niche rather than as a main link-building method.

7. Is blog commenting better than guest posting?

Both are great. Blog commenting is easier and faster; guest posting has higher authority impact.

Use tools like Ahrefs, Google Search Console, or spreadsheets to monitor links and anchor texts.

Are there still dofollow blog commenting sites?

Some blogs may publish followed commenter links, for example when a theme or plugin removes the default attributes. They are the exception on WordPress blogs, because WordPress adds ugc and nofollow to external commenter links by default. Check each blog’s links yourself before relying on any list.

The ugc value marks a link as user-generated content, such as a blog comment or forum post. Google introduced it in September 2019 and recommends it for comment and forum links. Google treats it as a hint, and it generally does not count such links as endorsements.

Does Google still use PageRank?

Google stopped showing Toolbar PageRank publicly on April 15, 2016, according to Wikipedia’s PageRank article, which also notes that PageRank continued to be used internally. Any PR number quoted for a site today is an old toolbar value, not a live score.

Is Domain Authority a Google ranking factor?

No. Domain Authority is a score developed by Moz on a 0 to 100 scale to predict ranking potential. Google does not use it, so a high DA does not guarantee that a comment link on that site has any value.

What should a good blog comment include?

A good blog comment responds to a specific point in the post, adds a fact, question or experience, uses the commenter’s real name, and contains no more than the single website link the comment form allows.

    Hi Harshil,
Thanks for sharing this list. Really helpful for me. I am just new to this kind of work. backlinks, blog commenting. After a couple of approved comments and after digging deep, you get into sites that often times, don’t even show your comments to show whether it’s awaiting admin moderation or if it was automatically approved. This list, I keep coming back, at least it’s a start. more often than not, on these lists I find sites that you only have to wait a few days and your comments get approved, or better yet, they approve it automatically. But in case, I need to find a niche specific blogsite, is there a right way you can suggest on searching them through google? I am currently looking for technology, cameras, mobile phone specific at the moment. Thank you so much!

    White hat link building techniques.
No matter what others say, SEO is not dead and neither is link building. Actually, SEO has been dead for years, for those who failed to adapt to the ever changing rules and increased requirements on skills, tools, details and perseverance.
Five years ago, one could easily buy his ranking position. A little bit of these and a little bit of those links, and you are on the first page. Well, that time is long gone.
Link building is not dead, it just reached a new level of complexity and is now more advanced than ever before.
Read on and learn more about smart link building techniques. You will learn how to build links without hurting your search rankings and see which tools can help you find the best links.

    Awesome list for blog commenting.

I have checked all the blogs manually and sorted out blogs of my niche. Now will start communicating with authors through comments and never spam for building links because I know, authors simply reject my comments if its a marketing pinch rather than value adding to blog post.

    Harshil Thanks for sharing. 🙂

  256. James Dooley on

The niche of blog commenting has too many times been tarnished with gsa and scrapebox tactics spamming 100k comments a day HOWEVER there is still a huge gap in the marketplace of SEO for blog commenting and i have recently written an advanced guide to blog commenting for SEO 2016. Fatrank.com/seo-2016-blog-commenting-advanced-guide/ have a read of it and see what you think? Would love your thoughts on it and if there is anything anyone can add to it then i will gladly include this in and credit the source.

I have seen first hand on 3 of my large affiliate sites the blog commenting has made a massive difference. It offers link diversity and drives traffic so just for them reasons alone its well worth doing but in my blog i name many other reasons why blog commenting is amazing for your websites and blogging platforms in SEO 2016.

Dofollow backlinks are worth very much. I really love the blog commenting sites list you provided here. When I was at my start in blogging, the term backlink has no meaning for me. Now the term backlink changed to high pr backlink. The reason behind is “trust” getting backlinks from high pr sites will surely give ranking boosting.. 🙂

Dofollow backlinks are price very a lot. I actually love the weblog commenting websites checklist you supplied right here. Once I was at my begin in running a blog, the time period backlink has no that means for me. Now the time period backlink modified to excessive pr backlink. The rationale behind is “belief” getting backlinks from excessive pr websites will certainly give rating boosting

Since PR (Web page Rank) is given by Google, it at all times belief websites which get backlinks from excessive pr. However getting dofollow is superior. Since we’d like to not work more durable to get backlinks from these listing. As a result of it’s simply by commenting.

Hi Harshil. Thank you for posting this great resource. Do you (or someone else on here) mind answering a few quick questions?

    1) For a site like Politico – can you make a comment on any article within that site or does it need to specifically be on a piece from their blog? 2) How can you tell if you have received a do-follow link? I have the Moz tool for Chrome but it doesn’t evaluate links within comment sections. 3) Does the link need to be within the comment itself or does there need to be a box asking you to fill in your website as is the case with this page?

    Thank you in advance! 🙂

    Thank you Harshil,

Just came across this blog commenting sites list. A very informative post and quite a few on the high pr commenting list that I hadn’t seen. Have bookmarked this and will share with my clients. Thanks.

Although page rank has less of a factor today than it did say 3 years ago, it is still important. Quality over quantity is key today. We also shouldn’t put all our trust to the search engines either. Utilizing the traffic and customers we already have is where the money is. Collect and manage those customers more effectively and you will see better results.

Of course, No Follow sites should be used but in a slightly different way. Get your links in appropriately and reap the benefits by having an opt-in form and a freebie on your site and gather emails.

It is also important to say that the effort we all put into getting good quality backlinks is rewarded and not simply wasted. Ensuring that you are only going for backlinks from sites that are relevant to your own niche, product or service is key. No point in getting a backlink from a PR8 Medical website if your own site is selling ladies pink handbags. Google will catch on and you will alienate your visitors. Also very important that the traffic that a backlink generates to your own site is of course captured, funneled and managed correctly once it arrives to maximize your profit potential. Your list is your profit and your pension, as they say.

    Thanks again. 🙂

    Hi Harshil,

I am confused about Dofollow links. I have seen many lists on internet giving tons of Dofollow links. But None of them are Dofollow, Same is with the list displayed here. According to my knowledge if the site puts the link with rel=nofollow or rel=”external nofollow” it is a no follow link and not counted by the the google. I have checked many of the links above and I found rel=nofollow or rel=”external nofollow”. Correct me if I am wrong. Because I myself want to find the dofollow blogs. Are the really existing
