Frequently asked questions
Are the entertainment tools here meant to be accurate?
No, and the ones that are for entertainment say so on the page. A love calculator or a compatibility score is a party trick with arithmetic behind it, not a measurement of anything. The name generators are a different matter: those do a real job.
Does the love calculator measure anything real?
It does not. It turns two names into a number by a fixed rule, so the same two names always give the same score, which is the giveaway that nothing is being measured. It is labelled as entertainment because that is honestly all it is.
Where do the name meanings come from?
Only from sources that can be cited. The Sanskrit names carry meanings from a published dictionary with its licence recorded, and where no sourced meaning exists, none is shown. Inventing a plausible-sounding meaning for a real name is not something these tools do.
Can I use a generated business or character name commercially?
You can use it, but check it first. A generator cannot tell you whether a name is trademarked, already trading in your sector or registered as a company. Search the trademark register and the company register for your territory before you commit to it.
Will I get the same names if I generate again?
Not normally — each run draws fresh combinations, so a shortlist you liked is worth saving before you generate again. Where a tool offers a seed, the same seed reproduces the same set, which is how you get a list back that you have already shared with someone.
Is anything I type saved?
No. Names, dates and words you enter are processed in your browser and are not sent anywhere. Saved favourites are kept in your own browser storage on that device only, and can be cleared from the page.
How do the different name generators differ?
By the word lists and the construction rules behind them, not just the label. A fantasy generator assembles sounds by a phonology so the names feel like they come from one language; a business generator blends real words to stay pronounceable and memorable. That is why they do not sound alike.
