The CR2450 and CR2477 are both 3-volt lithium coin batteries with the same 24.5 mm width, but they are not interchangeable. The CR2477 is much thicker: about 7.7 mm against about 5.0 mm for the CR2450. It also holds more energy, about 1,000 mAh against 620 mAh. A CR2477 won’t fit in a slot made for a CR2450, so always buy the code printed on your old battery.
This guide compares the two cells using maker data sheets (Energizer for the CR2450, Jauch for the CR2477), explains what the numbers in the names mean, and shows how they compare with the smaller CR2032.

| CR2450 | CR2477 | |
|---|---|---|
| Diameter | 24.3-24.5 mm (about 0.96 in) | 24.2-24.5 mm (about 0.96 in) |
| Thickness | 4.6-5.0 mm (about 0.2 in) | 7.3-7.7 mm (about 0.3 in) |
| Nominal voltage | 3 V | 3 V |
| Capacity | 620 mAh (typical) | 1,000 mAh (nominal) |
| Weight | 6.8 g | about 10.5 g |
| Chemistry | Lithium manganese dioxide | Lithium manganese dioxide |
Can I use a CR2450 instead of a CR2477?
Not as a proper replacement. Both are 3 V and the same width, but a CR2450 is about 2.7 mm thinner, so it may sit loose in a holder made for a CR2477 and lose contact. It also holds roughly 40% less energy, so it would need replacing sooner. Use the size your device asks for.
Can I use a CR2477 instead of a CR2450?
Usually no. The CR2477 is about 7.7 mm thick, so it is too thick for a battery slot made for a 5 mm CR2450.

What do the numbers in CR2450 and CR2477 mean?
- C: lithium manganese dioxide chemistry
- R: round
- 24: about 24 mm in diameter
- 50 or 77: the thickness in tenths of a millimetre, so 5.0 mm or 7.7 mm
The same pattern works for other coin cells: a CR2032 is 20 mm wide and 3.2 mm thick.

CR2450 vs CR2032
Both are 3 V lithium coin cells, but they are different sizes. A CR2450 is 24.5 mm wide and 5.0 mm thick; a CR2032 is 20 mm wide and 3.2 mm thick. The bigger CR2450 holds more energy: 620 mAh against about 235 mAh for an Energizer CR2032. They don’t fit the same holders, so you can’t swap them.
Other names for these batteries
- CR2450: Energizer’s data sheet lists the US code ANSI/NEDA 5029LC and the international code IEC CR2450. Some brands add letters in front, like ECR2450 or DL2450.
- CR2477: some makers add a letter at the end, like Jauch’s CR2477J. Always match the four digits, 2477.
How long do these batteries last?
That depends on the device, but storage loss is small. Energizer’s data sheet gives the CR2450 a self-discharge of about 1% a year, so a spare stays useful for a long time. In Energizer’s continuous 7.5 kΩ test, a CR2450 ran for about 1,590 hours before dropping to 2.0 V.

Coin battery safety
Energizer’s data sheet warns that swallowing a lithium coin cell can cause serious injury or death in as little as 2 hours. Keep new and used cells away from children, and get emergency medical help straight away if you think one has been swallowed.

Frequently asked questions
Are CR2450 and CR2477 the same?
No. They are the same width (24.5 mm) and voltage (3 V), but the CR2477 is thicker (7.7 mm against 5.0 mm) and holds more energy.
Is CR2450 the same as CR2032?
No. Both are 3 V, but the CR2450 is bigger (24.5 mm by 5.0 mm) than the CR2032 (20 mm by 3.2 mm). They don’t fit the same holder.
What size is a CR2450 battery?
About 24.5 mm in diameter and 5.0 mm thick.
What size is a CR2477 battery?
About 24.5 mm in diameter and 7.7 mm thick.
What is the voltage of a CR2450?
3 volts nominal. The CR2477 is also 3 volts.
What is the equivalent of a CR2450?
Any CR2450 from another brand, including versions sold as ECR2450 or DL2450. Energizer’s US code for it is 5029LC.
