Learn About These Different Types Of Forces For Your Class Test

Force is simply described as the pushing or pulling of a particular object. For example, while a person pushes a car in a particular path, it moves in the course of the force being applied. This movement is known as force. Throwing a ball in a specific direction or opening a door are also activities that require force.

The use of force requires the interaction between at least two objects. For example, when you push a table or pull on a chair, that action is considered a force because there is an interaction between two objects.

Different Types Of Forces For Your Class Test

Force can have several effects, such as.

  • Force can put any resting body in motion.
  • It can stop or slow down a moving body.
  • It can increase the speed of a moving body.
  • It can also switch the direction of a moving body along with its shape and size.

What Are The Different Types Of Forces?

Know about the important types of force for class 8th, i.e., contact forces and non-contact forces.

Contact Forces

As the name suggests, contact forces only occur when the two objects come into contact. Some of the most common examples of contact forces are tensile forces, drag forces, and frictional forces.

With contact forces, energy is transferred from one object to another. Sometimes you may also notice contact forces when an object is immersed in liquid.

Contact force is accountable for most of the interactions we tend to experience in day-to-day life. This force will either be continuous as a continual force or short like an impulse.

Types Of Contact Forces

Muscular force

It is defined as a force that arises from the use of muscles; for example, when a ball is lifted, or a door is pushed open or when bulls pull a cart, all of these actions result from the muscular force exerted by the person. It is a contact force because the interaction between the two objects is only possible through physical contact.

Spring Force

We have all seen and used spring in our lives. You must have noticed that when you apply force to one side of the spring, it shrinks. And as soon as you release the force, the spring will return to its original state. It is defined as the force that opposes the displacement of the object.

Applied Force

The applied force is one of the most common types of force. You can experience this force every day. The applied force is the force we exert on objects with our hands or legs or through any other object.

When you push your chair, you use some force to move it in a specific direction. A person pressing on a barrel is also an example of applied force.

Air Resistance Force

The air resistance force is the resistance that is naturally existing in the air. When you throw an object in the air, you will find that the object slows down, and this is due to resistance and gravity.

Friction Force

The force of friction may also alter the state of an object. Friction force always acts on moving objects, and the direction of this force is usually opposite to the thing in motion. For instance, once a moving ball stops, it’s an example of this force. Friction may result from contact between two surfaces, so it is referred to as a contact force.

Normal Force

The normal force is also known as the Support force. The normal force is the support force exerted upon an object connected with another fastened or stable object. For example, if a book is resting upon a surface, then the surface is putting an upward force upon the book to support the load of the book.

The firm ground provides the normal force for all folks living. The normal force is proportional to the weight of the body. Bigger the body, the bigger the normal force. If a large weight is kept on a table that can’t handle a normal force that large, it breaks.

Non- Contact Forces

A non-contact act force is exerted on an object by another body that is not in direct contact with it. Non- contact forces come into use when objects are not in physical contact with each other or when a force is put without interaction.

These forces can work without needing any physical action because of their invisible nature. The most familiar form of non-contact force is gravity. The article never comes in touch with it; however, it’s continuously present and acting upon the object.

Types of Non- Contact Forces

Magnetic Force

A magnet attracts items created of iron or steel and does not exert any force on things made of copper, wood or glass. As the iron nails and pins move towards the magnet, the magnet exerts a force on them. The force put by a magnet is called magnetic force.

A magnet may exert a force on another magnet even from a length while not touching the opposite magnet. And since a magnet can exert a magnetic force on distant iron objects, the magnetic force is a non-contact force.

Electrostatic Force

The force exerted by an electrically charged object is called electrostatic force. There are two types of electrical charge: positive electrical charge and negative electrical charge.

Electrostatic means stationary electrical charge. An object with a stationary electrical charge is called an electrically charged object. An electrically charged object can exert an electrostatic force on an uncharged object.

Gravitational Force

The attraction of objects with mass is called gravitational force. The gravitational force between objects is attractive and works even when the two objects are in no way connected.

The gravitational force between two ordinary objects with small masses is weak and cannot be easily demonstrated. The gravitational force only becomes strong when one of the objects has a large mass.

Conclusion

Force is the basic foundation of every movement and is expressed by its magnitude and direction. The magnitude of the force is a numerical value, and the direction of force is away “from” us when we push something and “towards” us when we pull something.
